Polymorph is a polymer which can be in the plastic or solid state. At above 62 degrees centigrade it is soft and below this temperature it becomes hard.
Polymorph can be bought in white granular form at relatively low cost . The current price (5/15/2005) for different pack sizes are shown in the table http://www.mutr.co.uk/prodDetail.aspx?prodID=576

It is relatively easy to use and the best method is to pour hot water over it in a container and when in the plastic state it can be collected and squashed by hand into the desired shape. The material starts turning solid at 62 degrees centigrade. Once hardened it is a very tough material.
In schools it can be used to make moulds for vacuum forming or make ergonomically designed handles. Other uses of polymorph include. Below is a list of uses for polymorph. ( from http://www.mutr.co.uk )
|
• Moulding of handles and orthopaedic aids • Vacuum forming moulds • Moulds for batch producing other mouldings • Prototype mechanical parts • Armatures / frames for models • Inserts for compliant products • Specialised components - e.g. motor mountings • Moulding of complete products - e.g. torches • Joining components together |
