Aluminium and its Alloys

Properties: Aluminium is relatively corrosion resistant and maintenance free. Almost all aluminium products can be recycled at the end of their shelf life and new products made. It is relatively lightweight strong and ductile and hence easy to make products from. It has good electrical conductivity and is useful in power transportation over long distances.  Aluminium can be protected from abrasion and corrosion by anodising.

Aluminium Alloy fall into two main groups. the ones where strength is achieved by rolling and the ones in which strength is achieved by heat treatment.  Alloys can be made from aluminium and many metals such as copper, manganese, magnesium, silicon, zinc etc.

Some common uses: Aircraft industry, aluminium foil, cans, cooking utensils, buildings etc. click on pictures below to see how.
